Method
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken pieces in a single layer (don't overcrowd), season with salt and pepper, and cook for 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally, until no pink remains in the center. Remove chicken and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add 1/4 cup water and broccoli florets. Cover and steam for 2-3 minutes until bright green and crisp-tender. Pour out any remaining water.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and melt butter in the pan. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly, until fragrant but not browned.
- Stir in soy sauce, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes if using. Return chicken to skillet and toss in sauce for 1-2 minutes.
- Gently fold in steamed broccoli until everything is well-coated with garlic butter sauce. Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and parsley if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
For best results, let chicken sear undisturbed for 2-3 minutes before flipping. Don't skip the steaming step for broccoli as it ensures perfect texture. Store leftovers in airtight container after cooling completely for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on stovetop with a splash of water. Note that broccoli will soften more when reheated.
