Ingredients

  • 16 slices sliced bread Sourdough, white, or thick-cut sandwich bread work best for structure and crispiness
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Softened at room temperature for at least 30 minutes (2 sticks / 226g)
  • 6 cloves garlic Minced fresh. Use up to 8 cloves for a stronger garlic flavor.
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley Finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Optional topping. Sprinkle during last 3 minutes of baking.

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Oven or broiler
  • Mixing bowl

Method

  1. Let butter soften at room temperature for at least 30 minutes. Add minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and evenly blended. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
  2. Lay all bread slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Spread garlic butter generously on each slice, covering all the way to the edges to prevent dry corners.
  3. Bake at 375 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes until golden at the edges and butter is fully absorbed. For extra crispiness, broil for 2 to 3 minutes at the end. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  4. If using Parmesan, sprinkle on top during the last 3 minutes of baking. Remove from oven and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

Garlic butter can be made up to 3 days ahead and stored covered in the fridge. Bring to room temperature before spreading. For a spicy version, add red pepper flakes to the butter mixture. Store leftovers at room temperature for up to 1 day or refrigerate for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes or in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 2 to 3 minutes to restore crispiness.
